About Johann Wanner

After an education in the commercial field and after many years of travelling in the Orient, Johann Wanner opened in the mid 1960s an antique shop at the St. Johanns-Vorstadt in Basel. Five years later he moved it to Spalenberg 14 in Basel. When some of his clients discovered in his assortment traditional Christmas decoration and showed great interest in it, he increasingly began to be interested in this field. At first he collected old, mouth-blown and hand painted glassware decoration and the appropriate blowing moulds. He travelled to Thuringia, North Poland, Bohemia and Czechia, where the last and endangered glassblower workshops existed. Soon thereafter, Johann Wanner began letting manufacture tree decorations with his collected plastered original moulds.

The unique products of this old German handicraft met increasing interest. That way, Johann could further expand and as market leader in the field of mouth-blown and hand painted Christmas decoration make a substantial contribution to the saving of the old cultural handicraft of the fabrication of tree decoration. Today, with more than 30 years of experience, Johann Wanner considers himself „Couturier of the Christmas tree“ – the tree is the model and the decoration the fashion. Every year there are new and hip colour and material combinations, from traditional to vanguard, always modelled on the actual events in fashion and design. Drop in and see what is in vogue this year!
